Bangkok Lesbian

I'm sorry guys, but I can't hold it in any longer. The lesbian scene here is very disappointing. I moved here over a month ago and was warned that there were only 2 lesbian bars in BKK. That's fine, I mean that's not the reason I came here. Having said that, I did kind of expect what there was here to be..erm...fun. That seems to be far from the reality!

When I went to check out EFUN, it was closed and I've heard nothing of it reopening. I then checked out Zeta. It was like walking into a funeral parlour! Everyone standing around far too many tables, nursing a beer, not talking and staring at some random band, playing too slow songs.

I am aware that some women like being serenaded with the soft strumming of a guitar and being read poetry to, and that's just fine.....just not in a place that is supposed to be a club!

Giving things another chance, I went again with a friend on friday night...to be met with 2 random bands, who actually seemed more interested in the football that was being played on the huge screen above them, than actually playing their too slow songs. We did, however, receive a rather brief, although not too brief, sadly, a relief from these poorly lacking melodies, with .....a magician?!?! And a male magician at that...in an all female club. I mean, seriously, WTF is going on???

I spoke to the manager who was very much of the opinion that lesbians needed variety. I suggested that what we needed and wanted were hot chicks, both inside and outside the DJ booth, playing wicked tunes, dancing and having some fun. Perhaps even talking to each other...who knows???? All they need to do is move all the tables off the main floor to create a dance floor, get some female DJs and get on with the music. Is it seriously that difficult??

So, I have 3 questions. What do we want, how do we want it and where do we want it? My friend and I are looking at organising a party, perhaps in a club here or on a beach. Not necessarily for women only. We're aware that Cee organises a monthly party and this is not to be regarded as any kind of competition. On the contrary, the more the merrier and even better if we can all participate. It's a party for us to have fun.

If you are interested, have any ideas or suggestions, or would like to get involved in organising it, please respond to this message and let us know.

ha ha Jen we met on Friday night. I agree I was quite bored. More DJ, no bands! move the tables out of the way and make a dance floor. Turn off the football and play some hot music video! It was my first time there, I ll give it another shot, I guess I dont have much of a choice being that its the only bar.

Having become somewhat of a regular at Zeta, I have to THAT bad. I totally agree with the idea of a dancefloor, which makes it plenty easy for people to mingle and meet new people. The best thing is to just start going once in a while and get to know some of the Thais, they do get crazy and dance sometimes. I know whenever the Dj is on I'm always dancing.
Another place you might want to check out is Lesbara. It's also got the whole liveband thing there but the crowd is a lot more friendly, way more wild, and not as young as the Zeta crowd. They have a dj after the band plays and it is open till 4am on weekends...although they stop serving alcohol around 2.

Most clubs here don't have a dancefloor which is super lame. Places that DO have a dancefloor generally draw more of a western crowd like 808 in RCA and clubs on Khaosarn Rd

Thanks for that. Where is Lesbara. Never heard of it and can't find it on the internet.

Lesbara is on Raminthra opposite Lotus, but this weekend is their last, they are going to move to a new location... hopefully one with a dance floor! They are open Wednesday (tonight), Friday and Saturday.
Apparently E-fun is going to reopen next month?

Now that is really bad news.... i am going to be going to Bangkok at the end of this month and actually was looking forward to going and checking out the scene but looks like it will be a waste of time....unless the club owners read what you have written and listen to your advice by the time i get there........ LETS HOPE SO..

I totally agree with the others. I was at Zeta once and don`t think I`ll go there a second time. Especially not alone.

I think on friday (maybe saturday) I`ll go to soi 4 and party with the gay guys.

its a lot more fun, more colorful there. And the show is pretty cool.

I never made it to DJ Station so far. I didn`t feel like travelling downtown and party on my own that friday.
(To be honest I was a bit disappointed that nobody could join me, for various reasons.)

Just now I came back from ICK club on Ramkhamhaeng and had a blast of a night there. Populair dance music and a good crowd. The ladyboy show was okay, but not great. They had a weird moment in the evening when a bunch of guys came out in their underwear and started drinking and dancing for tips

There were just a few women (as in born women ) and I think most of them were straight. Or maybe they didn`t like me enough I had a lot of fun dancing on the elevated dancefloor.

I think I`ll try DJ station this saturday and hopefully there will also be a bunch of women there.

Hmmm, I like Zeta and I liked EFun, but I usually go with friends to socialize rather than dance. I had heard Lesbara is closing since I had not made it there, but glad they are just moving hoping not far as Ramintra is not far from me, though they may have been. I think there is a lot to do here, myself I am not interested in the gay clubs. Not my scene but they are welcoming of lesbians I have heard. Hope u find places that meet ur needs. I will certainly be back to Zeta myself, and EFun if it reopens (I liked EFun better). Lesbara I hope makes it and the re-emergence of Lesla and Lesbara goes full-steam ahead. Hopefully as my Thai improves I will be able to use their web site.

There is alot to do that doesnt necessarily have to involve going to 'gay bars' all we used to do was hang around Khaosan and ekkamai, and sometimes BKKlez parties, and other places... and it was all awesome! Most people who go BKKlez parties dont really go to e-fun or zeta all that much i found.

If you're stuck just try and organise something on here, people are awesome and friendly and you will have alot of fun!!



Give it 3-4 years and we can have lesbian beach parties in mine n Ste's bar! watch this space! hehe

Just need qualifications and money or maybe stop living in a fantasy land lol.

Lesbara has taken over e-fun and will re-open this friday the 30th July... I agree with Jen that the Lesbara crowd is way friendlier and funner than the Zeta hipster crowd..

Cool I'm glad to hear that. I had wanted to check LesBara out and always liked EFun (but I like Zeta too) and am glad to see I can visit Lesbara and EFun together....

So typical i am here in bangkok for a few days and was hoping to meet some like minded people as there are only a few of us in Cambodia....and the day i leave is friday!!!Sorry after all the comments put on here about zeta etc im really not in the mood to try them especially on my own....So maybe next time.

Actually I'm not sure why some people don't like Zeta,... I've never has a problem there. I know a lot of people who rarely go anywhere else. I liked EFun better because more laid back, but I like Zeta too. Not sure what the new Lesbara/EFun will be like. I had hoped to take my friend tonight to see... Before both EFun and Zeta were too lopud to talk, my only complaint but can go outside at either but EFun had nice patio....

ok i'll answer this one:

1) the music selection makes me cringe with embarrassment. it's the same 10 songs over and over again, for the last ten years. it's like thailand's stuck in a time warp. this is a problem throughout the entire country, however, and not limited to zeta. i love music - and one of the things i love about going out in new york is hearing fresh new music.

2) it's too loud. my ears ring after and i can't talk to anyone. i don't mind loud music if i'm going to dance (just not stinging my ears loud), but i also would like to escape it if i want to talk to someone.

3) the tom/dy butch/femme role playing drives me nuts. every time i go i get into a discussion with someone stranger over "oh you must be lay-dee because you love tom-boy". no.

4) it's too crowded on fri/sat nights, and dead all other nights. i get bumped around, elbowed, pushed, etc, b/c of those damn tables on the dancefloor. i wish people could hold their own drinks instead of sharing and hovering around a table so there'd be more space. (or maybe they could push the tables to the side and everyone can stand around them there instead?) it's a serious fire hazard in there.

when i first came to thailand five years ago i thought places like zeta were interesting - at least something different to what i was used to. it wore off after about a year or two and i stopped going.

that aside, i do love thais & thailand - don't get me wrong. these are just the reasons why i don't go to zeta.

at our parties i try to provide an alternative: music i like (i know a lot of you guys don't like indie music - sorry!), a reasonable volume, open minded gender roles, space to move!

if others are interested in starting parties - i'm 100% supportive and will do anything i can to help. the more variety the better.

I'll agree for sure on point 2, but I felt the same way at EFun (I hope will be some breaks in the noise at the new Lesbara/EFun). I go to clubs to socialize the loud music is my biggest complaint.

Point 1, I've only been here 9 months, but I don't mind really. Because I don't really go to EFun or Zeta for the music (and both were pretty much the same), I go to be with friends and enjoy that. It would be nice to have places to go to listen to new music, but doesn't have to be Zeta. My friend told me she would take me to a place here that Carabao performs at sometime the next time they are there - now that I look forward to. But I don't think I'll see Carabao at Lesbara/EFun or Zeta. So the music isn't really the reason I go.

I don't mind the tom/dy aspect though i don't see myself as a tom or a dy, but I do like toms. But I'm just me. I rather like all the toms there, a friend commented last time I was there that the singer was cute and I agreed. LOL, but thing was there was a dy and a tom singer and I meant the tom. Even though I don't fit into the tom-dy dichotomy I don't mind it though.

Too crowded, I agree, But I think true of almost every well-known club in BKK. Everything here is too crowded but I love BKK still.

About the quote. I like indie music, actually I like almost all styles of music. Reasonable volume, I definitely agree. I don't like to go out with friends and have to yell to talk. Open-minded gender roles I am cool with, but this is Thailand so I accept what Thai's have established for themselves. After all those roles have been here for a long time. And while I wish they were a little more flexible, I think Thai tomboys are great. Maybe that is why I gravitate to them not only romantically but also as friends. And Zeta has been here for quite a while, I was sad to see EFun closed but happy it is back as Lesbara/EFun. Space to move is good.

Hope the next party is a success, not sure I'll be there. I'm attending a conference this week and part of the agenda is a weekend in Huahin and Cha-am that weekend. Not sure I have to go, but not sure I don't...

ive been there once. only once and dont plan to go there again. last time i went to Zeta i was in there for only an hour and didnt like it so my friends and i moved to Efun instead. it was a lot better tho. music and everything.

the reason i didnt enjoy Zeta is the Band. Some of u guys have mentioned that. we dont need bands we need the DJ and the dancefloor! and i sure agree with cee about the tom/dy role playing thing bothers me everytime.

anyways this is just my opinion. i hope the new efun will be a great place to hangout i havnt try there yet but absolutely looking forward to.

I've been there once long long time ago and left in an hour...like all of you guys said music is so boring...I don't know EFun, never been there before, I'll try one when it reopen.

still... on weekends the place's always packed.

I've only been to E-Fun once a few months ago. I left my friends at Slims and went exploring on my own. I went in to have a beer and it was pretty slow. It was mainly couples, but was ok b/c I just wanted to check it out. I think I saw more T/D at Slims! Overall, it was ok, but didn't stay long. I think I'd prefer the parties. Looking forward to your next one Cee!

I agree that tables should be gone out of clubs or banned to the sides!! When I go clubbing I expect to dance and meet new people. I always get disappointed every single time I go to Zeta, you walk in, and it seems all girls stare at you.. :-S How can anyone be comfy there.. How about some hired animation dancers? It would help to bring the girls to the dancefloor, and pls pay for a DJ and not some Bands which make u sleepy...

i found out that they need to have tables here in thailand because thais drink whiskey or they (half) force to sell it. when thais go out they go with group to share the whiskey and mixers which makes it cheaper for a night out plus when they go out that means getting real drunk and always gotta have drinks so buying a beer or two like farangs seem to be to expensive for them. plus most of thais when they club they don't really drink beer.. unless they just sit and chill. so they need the tables to put all those stuff on. plus the clubs get more money by selling whiskey with mixers like this so they decide to keep this kind of customers more.
