A tomboy's crimes of passion

A love-struck tomboy, twice convicted on drug charges, is doing everything she can to remain on the wrong side of the law so she can go to jail and be with her girlfriend. Supatra Laitaithongk, 28, was caught shoplifting yesterday in a bid to be reunited with her girlfriend, who is in prison.

Supatra was caught stealing cosmetics in Chalermthai and Forum shopping malls in Chon Buri province yesterday.

However, police did not detain her because the shopping malls did not press charges.

Supartra, however, said she would continue to break the law at all costs.

She made no secret of the fact that she is a tomboy and has a girlfriend, Kalayani Pasuramethi, 26, who is a prison inmate. Supatra said she committed the crime because she wanted to go back to jail and stay with her girlfriend.

Supatra said she had been previously jailed for a drug offence. In prison she met and fell in love with Kalayani, also a drug offender. Supatra served her term, but her girlfriend remained in prison.

Longing to be with her girlfriend, Supatra said she decided to buy two methamphetamine tablets, then went straight to police and gladly confessed her crime. She was then sent to jail for a second time where she was reunited with her girlfriend, as she intended.

However, she was released again on Dec 15, and went shoplifting yesterday.

Determined not to let anything come between her and her girlfriend, Supatra insisted she would try and find her way back to prison to be reunited with her lover.

Pol Capt Surachai Thanyathoworn, of Chon Buri's Muang district police station, said police tried to get Supatra to abandon the idea, but to no avail.
